BECOME A STUDENT OF THE HORSE
Hall Natural Horsemanship offers four different levels of people training
clinics. And that is really what they are, you will only be able to achieve
so much in a two or three day clinic but you might learn some principles
and approaches that may last for as long as you interact with horses.
That is why we began offering clinics in the first place, we believe we can
help more horses by teaching the people that own them. I have been
training horses for the public for a while now and it is so discouraging
to me to see the horses come so far just to go home and regress right back
to the point that got them sent to me in the first place.
Ground Work and Colt Starting

Groundwork:
This is a two or three day class that focuses on establishing a partnership
through clear communication. This class is for horses of any age,
if there are any problems in your relationship with your horse this is the
place to start. We start to learn how to read a horse, how to differentiate
between fear and disrespect and how to act accordingly. We learn how
to build trust and respect, teaching a horse that being with us is a good
place to be while respecting our personal space. And this is also
where we learn how to move the horses feet. If we can direct those
feet from the ground with softness then we might be able to go for an enjoyable
ride someday.
Colt Starting:
In this class we build upon our foundation we laid with the groundwork
and get more specific with what we ask of the horse. It is here we
introduce the horse to all the tools, aids, bags, blankets, and the saddle.
We help the horse learn how to move its feet with the saddle on and we eventually
let the horse carry the rider. We work on lateral flexion, one rein
stop, moving the hindquarters and forequarters, bringing the life up and
then bringing it back down. This is a three day class.
Horsemanship 1 and Horsemanship 2
Horsemanship 1:
This is a two or three day class that focuses on getting in time with the
horse, feeling of the horse, and directing. We learn the importance
of phases in our cues and how that leads to lightness and responsiveness.
The students begin to realize their responsibilities as a leader in their
partnership with their horse. This is a very fun course as Kirk presents
all kinds of puzzles for the students to work through as they start to learn
how to prepare themselves and their horses for the fundamental maneuvers
that are the basis of all horsemanship.
Horsemanship 2:
This is a two or three day clinic where the students learn to be specific
and ask it of the horse. The puzzles become more complex, we work
more in a trot and introduce the lope. All the maneuvers are attempted
with more precision in mind. The rider will work at smoother transitions,
improve their timing and gain quicker response from their horse. We
will discuss more about problem solving, or being there for our horse, and
work them through troubled areas. Horsemanship 1 is a prerequisite
for this class.
